Description

A simple and delicious oven recipe for tender and juicy BBQ chicken drumsticks that everyone will love, even on busy nights.


Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2-3 pounds Chicken drumsticks
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite, plus extra for serving) (Choose a thicker sauce for better adhesion.)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil or neutral oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika (Highly recommended.)
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder (Optional but nice.)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne or chili powder (Optional for heat.)


Instructions

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a sheet pan with foil or parchment paper and place a wire rack on it if you have one.
  3. Pat drumsticks dry with paper towels to ensure they are very dry.
  4. Rub the drumsticks with olive oil and season generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, and cayenne or chili powder.
  5. Arrange the drumsticks in a single layer on the rack with some space between each piece.

Cooking

  1. Bake the drumsticks for about 25 minutes.
  2. Brush with BBQ sauce and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  3. Flip the drumsticks, brush with more BBQ sauce, and bake for another 8 to 12 minutes.
  4. For extra caramelization, broil for 1 to 3 minutes at the end, watching closely to prevent burning.

Notes

Do not crowd the pan to avoid steaming. Let drumsticks rest for 5 minutes after baking to reduce mess when biting in.
