Description

A simple and juicy BBQ chicken recipe baked in the oven, perfect for busy weeknights and loved by the whole family.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 to 2.5 pounds chicken (breasts, thighs, drumsticks, or a mix) (Choose your preferred chicken cuts.)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (Plus a little extra for serving.)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (Helps keep the chicken juicy.)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (Optional but recommended.)
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt (Adjust according to your BBQ sauce.)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a sheet pan with foil or parchment.
  2. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels to help the sauce stick.
  3. In a bowl, mix BBQ sauce, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Coat the chicken well and place it on the pan with some space between the pieces.

Baking

  1. Bake the chicken, flipping halfway through and brushing on more BBQ sauce.
  2. Finish with a last brush of sauce near the end for a sticky top layer.
  3. Rest the chicken for 5 minutes before serving to retain juiciness.

Notes

Use thin layers of BBQ sauce to avoid burning, and let the chicken rest before slicing for better texture. Serve with simple sides like coleslaw or corn on the cob.
