Description

A delicious and quick BLAT sandwich featuring crispy bacon, fresh lettuce, ripe avocado, juicy tomato, and a flavorful garlic aioli, all sandwiched between perfectly toasted bread.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 strips thick cut bacon (For maximum crispiness.)
  • 2 leaves romaine lettuce or butter lettuce (Wash and dry well.)
  • 1 large ripe avocado (Should be sliceable.)
  • 1 large tomato (In-season is best, sprinkle with salt.)
  • ¼ cup feta cheese (Optional for a tangy flavor.)
  • 4 slices sourdough or ciabatta bread (Toast until golden and crisp.)

Garlic Aioli

  • ½ cup mayonnaise (Base for the aioli.)
  • 1 clove garlic (Grated or minced.)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (To taste.)
  • 1 pinch salt (To enhance flavor.)
  • 1 pinch black pepper (Optional for seasoning.)

Instructions

Cooking the Bacon

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a sheet pan with foil and place a rack on top if available. Lay bacon strips flat on the rack.
  2. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until crisp, then allow to cool.

Preparing the Aioli

  1. In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. Toast the bread until golden and crisp.
  2. Spread a generous layer of garlic aioli on both slices.
  3. Layer the lettuce on one slice, followed by tomato and avocado.
  4. Add the crispy bacon on top, then sprinkle with feta.
  5. Close the sandwich, press gently, and slice it in half.

Notes

For even less sogginess, keep watery ingredients away from the bread. Assemble right before serving if taking for lunch. You can add extras like a fried egg for additional protein.
