Description

A deliciously cheesy and tangy sandwich made with chopped roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, and pickles, perfect for satisfying your deli cravings.

Ingredients

For the Sandwich

  • 4 servings Cuban bread or soft sub rolls (Cuban bread is preferred; otherwise, use a soft sub roll.)
  • 8 oz deli sliced roast pork (Leftover roasted pork or pulled pork can also be used.)
  • 4 oz thin sliced deli ham (Use thinly sliced for best results.)
  • 4 oz Swiss cheese (Classic option for melting.)
  • 1 cup dill pickles, chopped (Brings essential crunch and tang.)
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard (Traditional condiment for the sandwich.)
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise (For a creamy base.)

Optional Add-ons

  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce (Add for extra crunch.)
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced onion (For added flavor.)
  • 1/4 cup banana peppers (For a spicy kick.)

Instructions

Chop and Mix

  1. Roughly chop the ham, roast pork, and pickles into bite-sized pieces.
  2. In a bowl, combine the chopped meat and pickles, then add mayonnaise and mustard. Mix until well-coated.
  3. Taste the mixture and adjust with more mustard or pickle juice as needed. If desired, lightly fold in shredded lettuce or onions.
  4. Optionally, warm the meat mix in a skillet for 2-3 minutes until heated through.

Assemble the Sandwich

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) if baking.
  2. Open the bread and lightly toast it.
  3. Add Swiss cheese to both sides of the bread.
  4. Spoon the chopped Cuban filling down the center and spread it evenly.
  5. For a deli-style finish, press gently, wrap in foil, and rest for 2 minutes before slicing.

Oven-Baked Option

  1. Build the sandwich open-faced on a baking sheet with cheese on the bread and the chopped filling on top.
  2. Bake for 6-10 minutes until the cheese is melted. If using, close the sandwich and bake for an additional 1-2 minutes.

Storage Tips

  1. Store the chopped filling in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Keep bread separate to avoid sogginess.
  2. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for best results.

Notes

This sandwich is filling, so serve with simple sides like potato chips or fruit. For meal prep, keep meat and bread separate to maintain texture.
