Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 package Buldak carbonara ramen pack (Includes noodles and spicy sauce packet.)
- 1 large egg yolk (Adds richness.)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream or half and half (Adds a luxurious feel.)
- 1 tablespoon butter (To smooth out the spice.)
- 1 clove garlic (optional) (For added flavor.)
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (Grated, for a savory finish.)
- to taste black pepper (For additional flavor.)
- 1/2 cup water (reserved from noodles) (Use for sauce consistency.)
- optional protein (bacon, chicken, shrimp, or tofu) (For additional protein.)
Instructions
Preparation of the Sauce
- In a small pan, melt the butter on low heat and lightly cook the garlic for about 20 to 30 seconds.
- Stir in two-thirds of the spicy sauce packet and a splash of reserved noodle water. Mix to mellow out the heat.
Making the Creamy Base
- In a bowl, mix the egg yolk with the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese. Add black pepper but do not scramble the egg.
Cooking the Ramen
- Boil the ramen noodles in water until just barely done, about 3 to 4 minutes, then drain.
- Reserve about half a cup of the starchy noodle water before draining.
Combining Noodles and Sauce
- Add the drained noodles to the pan with the spicy butter sauce and toss for 20 to 30 seconds with the heat off.
- Quickly transfer the noodles to the bowl with the egg yolk and cream mixture. Toss until well coated, adding reserved water if necessary to achieve desired consistency.
Notes
For variations, consider adding crispy bacon, soft boiled eggs, or sautéed vegetables. Adjust spice level by controlling the amount of sauce packet used.
