Description

A cozy, lightly spiced buttercream frosting made with apple butter, perfect for fall-themed cupcakes and cakes, easy to whip up and customize.

Ingredients

Frosting Base

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened (Room temperature, not melty)
  • 1/2 cup Apple butter (Start with a smaller amount, adjust to taste)
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar (Sifted if lumpy)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (Optional but nice)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground cinnamon (Optional, adds cozy flavor)
  • 1 pinch Salt (Helps the apple flavor pop)
  • 1 tablespoon Milk or heavy cream (Only if needed to loosen the texture)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Beat the softened butter until it looks creamy and slightly lighter in color, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Add the apple butter and beat again until fully mixed in, scraping the bowl to avoid streaks.
  3. Add the powdered sugar in batches, starting with 1 cup at a time. Mix slowly initially, then increase speed.
  4. Mix in the vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt, then taste. Add more apple butter if desired.
  5. Adjust texture by adding a tiny splash of milk or cream if too thick, or add more powdered sugar if too soft.
  6. Ensure the frosting is smooth, holds a soft peak, and feels fluffy when swiped with a spoon.

Notes

Start with properly softened butter to avoid lumps. Sifting powdered sugar makes the frosting silkier. Adjust apple butter slowly to maintain the desired consistency.
