Description

A creamy, sweet, and slightly salty side dish that’s quick to prepare, perfect for potlucks and BBQs.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 2 cups Frozen English peas (thawed) (Drain well.)
  • 1 cup Mayonnaise (Can be substituted with Greek yogurt.)
  • 1/2 cup Sour cream (Can be substituted with plain Greek yogurt.)
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese (shredded) (Other options include Colby Jack or feta.)
  • 1/4 cup Red onion (finely chopped) (Can be soaked to reduce bite.)
  • 1 stalk Celery (optional, chopped) (Adds crunch.)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt (Adjust to taste.)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper (Adjust to taste.)
  • 1 pinch Sugar (optional) (Balances flavors.)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Thaw the peas, drain well.
  2. In a large bowl, combine mayonnaise and sour cream, then add salt, pepper, and sugar if desired.
  3. Mix in the peas, cheddar, red onion, and celery gently to avoid smashing the peas.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.
  5. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

This salad improves in flavor after chilling; can be made a day in advance. Avoid freezing as it compromises texture.
