Description
A simple and delicious baked tilapia recipe with a crispy parmesan crust that is perfect for a cozy dinner at home.
Ingredients
For the Topping
- 1 cup Grated Parmesan cheese (Freshly grated melts better but tub variety works)
- 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs (For extra crunch)
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Black pepper
- 4 tbsp Butter, melted (Olive oil can be used as a substitute)
For the Fish
- 4 fillets Tilapia fillets, fresh or thawed (Choose fillets of similar size for even baking)
For Serving
- 2 Lemon wedges (For serving)
- 2 tbsp Parsley (For garnish, optional)
Instructions
Preparation
- Heat the oven to 400°F.
- Prep a baking sheet by lining it with foil or parchment and lightly greasing it.
- Pat the tilapia fillets with paper towels to dry.
- In a bowl, mix together the Parmesan, panko, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Drizzle in the melted butter and mix until the mixture resembles damp crumbs.
- Place the fillets on the pan and press the Parmesan mixture on top.
Cooking
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets, until the crust is golden and the fish flakes easily with a fork.
- Optionally, broil for 1 to 2 minutes for extra color, keeping a close watch to prevent burning.
- Squeeze lemon on top and add parsley if desired before serving.
Notes
Patting the fish dry is crucial for a crispy topping. For variations, consider adding lemon zest to the topping or swapping panko for crushed pork rinds for a low-carb option.
