Description

Easy and mess-free Baked Tacos that are crispy, cheesy, and ready to serve for a delightful taco night.

Ingredients

For the Ground Beef Filling

  • 1 lb Ground beef (lean, 85 or 90 percent) (Use lean beef for better cooking.)
  • 1 medium Onion (optional) (Adds flavor.)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (or garlic powder) (Fresh garlic preferred, but garlic powder works in a pinch.)
  • 1 packet Taco seasoning (Store bought or homemade.)
  • 2-3 tbsp Tomato sauce or salsa (Keeps beef juicy.)
  • 8 pieces Tortillas (corn or flour) (Corn tortillas are crispier.)
  • 1 cup Shredded cheese (cheddar, Mexican blend, or Monterey Jack) (Freshly shredded melts better.)
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • as needed Oil or cooking spray (For crisping the tortillas.)

For Toppings

  • to taste Lettuce
  • to taste Tomato
  • to taste Sour cream
  • to taste Hot sauce

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare a baking sheet.
  2. Cook the ground beef in a skillet, drain excess grease, and add onion and garlic. Sauté until softened.
  3. Stir in taco seasoning and 2-3 tablespoons of tomato sauce or salsa.
  4. Taste and adjust salt as necessary.

Assembling Tacos

  1. Warm the tortillas for about 20 seconds in a microwave to make them pliable.
  2. Lay tortillas on a baking sheet and lightly brush or spray with oil.
  3. Add a layer of cheese, followed by the beef mixture, and then add more cheese on top.
  4. Fold the tortillas into taco shapes and gently press to hold.

Baking

  1. Bake in preheated oven for 10-14 minutes until crispy and the cheese is melted.
  2. Allow to cool for 2 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use a light coat of oil on the tortillas for extra crunch. Avoid overfilling to prevent sogginess. Leftover tacos can be stored for up to 3 days in the fridge.
