Description
A quick, kid-friendly snack made with melted cheese and deli ham wrapped in either puff pastry or crescent dough, perfect for satisfying hunger pangs or entertaining guests.
Ingredients
Dough Options
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed) or 1 can crescent roll dough (Use puff pastry for a flakier texture or crescent dough for a softer chew.)
Filling
- 6 to 8 slices deli ham (Pat dry if it looks wet to avoid sogginess.)
- 6 to 8 sticks mozzarella or sliced cheese cut into strips (Mozzarella provides a great melt.)
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional) (Helps with browning.)
- 1 to 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard or mayo (Optional, for extra flavor.)
Seasonings and Toppings
- garlic powder, Italian seasoning, black pepper (Seasonings to sprinkle on top.)
- sesame seeds or grated Parmesan (Optional topping.)
Instructions
Preparation
- Heat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out puff pastry (or unroll crescent dough). If using crescents, pinch the seams to form one sheet.
- Cut the dough into strips, about 1 to 1.5 inches wide.
- Spread a thin layer of Dijon or mayo on each strip if desired.
- Lay a piece of ham on the strip, then place cheese on one end.
- Roll it up like a little sleeping bag, tucking the ends slightly.
- Brush the tops with egg wash for shine and color. Sprinkle seasonings if desired.
Baking
- Bake for 12 to 16 minutes, until deep golden and crisp.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving, as the cheese will be very hot.
Notes
These can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for 2 months. To reheat, use the oven at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes or the air fryer for 3 to 5 minutes.
