Description

A quick, kid-friendly snack made with melted cheese and deli ham wrapped in either puff pastry or crescent dough, perfect for satisfying hunger pangs or entertaining guests.

Ingredients

Dough Options

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed) or 1 can crescent roll dough (Use puff pastry for a flakier texture or crescent dough for a softer chew.)

Filling

  • 6 to 8 slices deli ham (Pat dry if it looks wet to avoid sogginess.)
  • 6 to 8 sticks mozzarella or sliced cheese cut into strips (Mozzarella provides a great melt.)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional) (Helps with browning.)
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard or mayo (Optional, for extra flavor.)

Seasonings and Toppings

  • garlic powder, Italian seasoning, black pepper (Seasonings to sprinkle on top.)
  • sesame seeds or grated Parmesan (Optional topping.)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Heat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out puff pastry (or unroll crescent dough). If using crescents, pinch the seams to form one sheet.
  3. Cut the dough into strips, about 1 to 1.5 inches wide.
  4. Spread a thin layer of Dijon or mayo on each strip if desired.
  5. Lay a piece of ham on the strip, then place cheese on one end.
  6. Roll it up like a little sleeping bag, tucking the ends slightly.
  7. Brush the tops with egg wash for shine and color. Sprinkle seasonings if desired.

Baking

  1. Bake for 12 to 16 minutes, until deep golden and crisp.
  2. Let cool for a few minutes before serving, as the cheese will be very hot.

Notes

These can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for 2 months. To reheat, use the oven at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes or the air fryer for 3 to 5 minutes.
