Description
A cozy and exciting twist on a classic grilled cheese, combining sweet apples, savory beef, and crispy bacon, all drizzled with hot honey for a flavorful treat.
Ingredients
For the sandwich
- 2 slices thick sliced sourdough or sturdy sandwich bread (Use your preferred bread type.)
- 1 cup shredded or sliced cheddar cheese (Mix sharp and white cheddar for better melt.)
- 2 slices cooked bacon (Crispy is best.)
- 3 oz thin sliced cooked beef (Use leftovers or browned ground beef.)
- 1 medium apple (Crisp varieties like Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, or Granny Smith work best.)
- 2 tbsp hot honey (Store bought or homemade.)
- 1 tbsp butter or mayo (For spreading on the bread.)
- 1 pinch black pepper (Optional.)
- 1 pinch salt (Optional.)
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard (Optional.)
Instructions
Preparation
- Cook your bacon until crisp, then set it on paper towels.
- Warm the beef if it is cold from the fridge, it does not need to be hot, just not icy.
- Slice the apple thinly. If desired, toss slices with a tiny squeeze of lemon to keep them fresh looking.
- Butter (or mayo) one side of each bread slice; that will be the outside.
Cooking
- Heat a skillet on medium to medium-low. Place one slice of bread down, buttered side down.
- Add cheese, then beef, followed by bacon, apple slices, a drizzle of hot honey, and more cheese.
- Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
- Cook for 3 to 5 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula. Cover with a lid to help the cheese melt.
- When both sides are golden and the cheese is gooey, remove from heat and let rest for 1 minute before slicing.
Serving
- Drizzle a little extra hot honey on top after slicing for added flavor and appeal.
Notes
To keep the sandwich crispy, use medium-low heat, slice apples thin, and avoid over-drizzling hot honey inside.
