Description

A comforting and creamy side dish that tastes like real corn, perfect for weeknight dinners or holiday meals.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups Corn (fresh cut kernels, frozen, or canned) (Drain canned corn well if used.)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (For flavor and richness.)
  • 2 tablespoons Flour (Helps thicken the sauce.)
  • 1 cup Milk (For creamy texture.)
  • 1/4 cup Heavy cream or half and half (For extra creaminess.)
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar (Optional, helps balance sweetness.)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt (To taste.)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper (Do not skip this for balance.)
  • 2 tablespoons Cream cheese (Optional for extra richness.)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Melt butter in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Sprinkle in the flour and stir for about 30 seconds to cook off the raw flour taste.
  3. Pour in the milk slowly while stirring to keep it smooth. Add the heavy cream and stir until slightly thickened.
  4. Stir in the corn, along with salt, pepper, and optional sugar. Let simmer gently until the corn is heated through and the sauce is creamy.
  5. If using cream cheese, stir it in at the end until melted and smooth. Adjust seasoning as needed.

Notes

For a richer flavor, mash a small scoop of corn against the side of the pan to release natural sweetness. This recipe can easily be adjusted for spiciness, cheesiness, or additional herbs to suit your taste.
